I installed firefox 3 days ago and use it concurrently with Internet Explorer. Both browsers deliver outdated pages of Spiegel-Online, but of different dates. After diskcleanup Internet Explorer yielded today's page. Firefox still gives me yesterdays page of Spiegel Oonline. Is this a problem of my computer, the browsers or the provider? What can I do?

I have outdated pages, 2-3 days old, in Firefox and Internet Explorer

I turn off automatic updating of webpages myself. You can clear cache now with Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > clear now

To clear cache at the end of your Firefox session, and that is the ONLY thing I allow clearing history to clear (Tools -> options -> Privacy), make sure you are not clearing any of your web history, passwords, cookies etc in "Settings for Clearing History" when you allow clearing of history

BTW you can do the same in in Internet Explorer and other browsers as well. In Firefox I move the cache to outside of the profile, I don't like backing it up.

I cleared "history, everything" but firefox still shows the "Spiegel Online" homepage of 29 July 2011. Strangely, the Internet Explorer now shows today's homepage (31 July) even though I have not done any history clearing or anything else in IE.

Thanks for the help.

You can also try to reload the web page(s) and bypass the cache.

  • Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Cmd + Shift + R" (MAC)

Check and tell if its working.

Thanks, mha007, Shift + Reload Button has done the job. Can I adjust settings so as to always get current pages?
