Firefox crashed, reloaded, since then cannot download another browser as a backup. Firefox takes it over, also download window shows nothing, cannot open pics, etc.

I downloaded IE, it was always there, but when FF crashed it went away. Downloaded IE several times, but keeps opening as FF. Have not been able to open pics for months.
