An installed Theme does not get disabled or even removed from the main body of the browser, only from the header.

After even uninstalling the all Themes and reverting to Default, the footer continues to display that one particular theme - Celestial. Concomitantly, against that dark background whenever the mouse cursor moves over a line in Gmail, the line turns White. Unreadable and irritating. This happened before I updated to Firefox 12 and persists when I have updated to Firefox 13 today. Firefox on my other desktop with the same Theme does not have this problem. Grateful for any guidance in getting a solution.

I'm not seeing anything in the screenshot that looks like a footer with a background image apart from the Add-ons Bar that shows messages from the NoScript extension.

Do you mean that you still see a persona at the bottom part of the browser window?

See:

You can also remove the personas files (lightweighttheme-header and lightweighttheme-footer) in the Firefox Profile Folder.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

Thank you. The irritating highlighting (in white) of individual post lines in Gmail have gone. However, with only the default persona installed, the footer still has the carryover from the Cesetial Theme. Any further tweaks to get rid of that would be appreciated.

What do you mean with the "default persona" ?

Do you mean the default theme?

If the persona files are removed then you shouldn't see the persona unless there is a problem with (leftover) prefs.

I am sorry to have used the word 'persona', should have been the Default Theme as you mention.

Yes, with only the Default Theme 13.0 showing on the Appearance page (the rest all having been removed), I still see the carry over of the Celestial Theme in the footer.

I already deleted the two files (ightweighttheme-header and lightweighttheme-footer) as advised earlier and got the limited success.

How do I now tackle the leftover prefs as you mention, if that is the solution.

Thank you for your interest and help.

User set prefs show as bold on the about:config page.
You can reset one specific pref via the right-click context menu to the default value.

Thanks for your reply.

However, on resetting the bold entry against browser.preferences to the default value still has Celestial Theme displayed in the footer.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Thank you as always for your continued effort to help me.

I am sorry but the latest suggestion of creating a new profile did not help. I did the exercise twice as the first time I did not check the Extensions and Plugins installed by default.

The second time after creating a new profile I ensured all of them were disabled (there was no button to remove them, otherwise I would have done so, one by one) but the problem of the carry-over footer remains.

Can you attach a screenshot?

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed the maximum file size (1 MB).

Thanks. Attaching the screenshot.

Are you referring to the background image on the Google page?

In that case you may have set a background image for Google sites.

more options

No, I have not.

The same theme installed on another desktop when disabled (not even removed) reverts to the Firefox default footer background.

Thank you again for your effort.

Thank you ever so much for persisting in helping me.

After my post yesterday, I did some rethinking and came to the conclusion that what I continued to see was not the carryover from the Firefox Celestial Theme but the Space Theme under Gmail. I have succeeded in getting the background colour of my choice.

The major irritant of the mail lines being highlighted, you solved with your first reply and all that followed was due to my fault.

Please allow me to say sorry and a big thank you.
