How do I get firefox from rerouting or sending me to sites other than the ones I want?

When I try to go to one website, link or webpage- I keep getting rerouted to other sites I didn't ask to go to. It happens with basically every web site including yours when I use firefox but it doesn't happen when I use another browser. I have a Mac running 10.5.8 and my firefox is 16.0.2

You may have some malware on your Mac if you get redirected.

Did you check the connection settings?

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if the "Use the system proxy settings" setting or one of the others doesn't work properly.
