Firefox multiple errors

I'm having serious problems getting my recent version of Firefox to work correctly. I've been messing around w/ this for a little while, and the normal stuff isn't working.
I've been using Firefox for years. I've never before observed the kind of failures I'm currently experiencing.
Basically, it's really messed up. It's not just one thing. I'd guess 50% of the overall functionality is broken.
Here is what works: --Firefox loads. If you type in a url, it loads the site, plugins seem to work, etc, pages are rendered correctly. You can click text links. --I can enter 'about:' in the url bar, or 'about:config', etc. They do show the settings.
Here is what doesn't work:
--Image links don't go anywhere. they light up for "mouse-over", but clicking doesn't do anything.
--Back button. It never highlights. The "greyed out" button stays greyed out, even if you visit a page and click on the links.
--Menu navigation. For example, If I go to Firefox->Help->anything_in_the_list, and click the link, it simply closes the navigation window. It doesn't open the item. That means I can't open options, plugins, web development, etc. You can see the items in the window, but you can't actually click on them. If you try, the window simply closes.
--Right click -- it now opens this huge list of stuff. And no 'back' that I can see.
--Downloads -- I can't download any files. if you click downloads, it will always error out with the msg 'c:\users\my_name\appdata\local\rand_string.exe.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read.'
--The mouse pointer 'status' . When you click a link and have to wait a few seconds, you expect it to change. It doesn't. It just sits there on the pointer, then will suddenly start rendering the new page.
--Clicking links does not update the url in the url bar. Whatever you initially type in, says stuck there regardless of what site you visit.
High level, it seems like something pretty basic is broken. Everything was running fine until this update. I've since tried safe mode (no change), remove and reinstall both app plus app and user settings, as well as a 'reset'. I've rebooted the computer (win7, 64bit, sp1), and no change. AV is current and up to date (Avira) and the computer is not having any other issues. I'm running in my regular account both normally, as well as rt-click run-as-admin. Both exhibit the same behavior. Also broken for both admin and non-admin user accounts.
System is clean, virus free. All other system apps are working fine. No other issues on this computer.
fwiw, our FF updates are normally pushed out as a WSUS update. Our other users are fine. Only mine is broken.
Anyone have any ideas? Reinstalling the os is not an option :)

Solved.
After discovering that FF22 worked fine and I could manually access the addons by going to about:addons, it became easier to debug the problem.
I did two things to get this working. First, I did a clean uninstall of FF, including removing the program files\firefox folder.
Then upon stand-alone installation of FF23, I did NOT select automatically start FF. Instead, I did the a safe-start for the first time run. This caused FF to bypass the initial check to see if any plugins were outdated. At that time I was able to successfully access the 'Get Add-ons' menu. I closed FF, then restarted it, and it works fine, w/ all my plugins.
I don't know if deleting all the files is what solved it, or starting it the first time in safe mode and skipping the plugin-in update check helped, but regardless, all my plugins are now working and my FF23 is working correctly now.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.
Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.
That is very broken, and you've covered most of what comes to mind.
You should be able to open the Troubleshooting Information page by typing or pasting about:support in the address bar and pressing Enter. However, if you did a reset, this may not reveal very much that we normally check (e.g., extensions).
Similarly, you should be able to view and disable nonessential plugins by typing or pasting about:addons in the address bar and pressing Enter. However, it's rare that a plugin could cause widespread issues.
If you press Ctrl+Shift+p to open a New Private Window, assuming you can do that, does Firefox work any better or differently?
Does your organization modify Firefox, or use WSUS for bandwidth management only?

On the profile question, that was tried automatically when we logged in to the desktop with another account. All admin and non-admin accounts exhibit the same problems. Each user account has its own profile, and some of these were test accounts. so they did not have a previous local profile. It was newly created.
As for the other response, I can indeed open the troubleshooting tab manually with about:support. Get Add-ons does open, but the window hangs. The extensions, appearance, and plugins window do open.
So I tried FF 23.0.0, and it was also broken. Next I tried FF 22.0.0, and it works great! And Crtl+shift+p does open a new window, though it doesn't appear to be private in V23.
I loaded FF 22, tried the get add-ons and it works, though I don't see any add-ons -- just a page about how to find them (and I don't believe I've added any FF add-ons). But FF22 seems to work great for me. Going back to V23 breaks again. I also noticed that the 'Checking Compatibility of Add-ons' window during the upgrade from V22 to V23 hangs. Seems some sort of add-on is breaking something. I thought FF safe mode bypassed that?
We use WSUS for package management to ensure system stability. Just letting the systems update to the "latest and greatest" version of stuff doesn't always work well for us. We need things stable. Ironic, given the current status of my desktop.
