Can't find system requirements for plugins. Running windows 2K
I am running windows 2k. I am unable to run the current Firefox version. Whenever Firefox asks me to update my plugins or extensions, I have no idea whether it will try to update to an incompatible plugin and cripple the current running Firefox version (12.0). Firefox is currently prompting me to update several of the plugins. Are suggested plugin updates "always compatible" with the firefox version and operating system currently running?

The Plugin check page always wants you to have the latest available, which doesn't work for an OS as old as Windows 2000.
It looks though your three main plugins are:
- Adobe PDF reader - according to Adobe's site, the latest and final release in the Adobe Reader 9 series is 9.5.5 (see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/releas.../release-notes-acrobat-reader.html) - you can update from inside Adobe Reader using the Help menu. This seems to be the latest you can run on Windows 2000.
- Adobe Flash player (Shockwave Flash) - according to Adobe's site, the latest version for Windows 2000 is 11.1.102.55 (see http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/k.../archived-flash-player-versions.html) - it appears you probably already have this.
- Apple QuickTime - I couldn't immediately determine the latest version. You could try Apple's download page: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/.
Regarding extensions, this is more difficult to research (particularly without the list). You could create a new profile and install the latest version of the extension there to see whether it still functions correctly.
Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run):
firefox.exe -P
Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.
When creating a new profile, I recommend using the default location suggested, and to avoid data loss, not re-using any existing folder. Before deleting unneeded profiles, I suggest making a backup first in case something were to go wrong.
This new profile won't have your regular data, but hopefully you can still get a sense of whether an extension update will work.
