My machine keeps hanging running windows 8.1 and task manager shows program windowsupdate.exe running at almost 100% when I check its properties it is in folder Users/app data/roaming/firefox however roaming also has a folder mozilla.

When I check my laptop running windows 7 the mozilla folder is ther but not the firefox one

is theis a genuine folder and is the program genuine or do i have a virus/trojan. A full scan by windows defender finds nothing.

I am able to end task in task manager to correct machine

Any help would be appreciated.

I have googled but could find nothing of use

hello spectra7045, %appdata%\Mozilla should hold your genuine firefox profile data - as far as i know %appdata%\firefox is not used by firefox or shouldn't be there. i'd try renaming/deleting that directory and running a full scan of your system with different other security tools like the free version of malwarebytes and adwcleaner.

Thank you for that

I deleted the windowsupdate file from the folder and ran malawarebytes which found nothing other than a few registry items for a serchdial search engine I had deleted. Have deleted the firefox folder and all seems well Have checked this morning and no sign of the firefox folder having been recreated.

Many thanks for the help
