How do I force url links to open in Firefox only ?

I use IE-Favorites not only for internet url shortcuts, but also as a normal folder (which it is actually). I work with Firefox on a Windows PC with plugin "PlainOldFavorites" for the bookmarks.

On my Mac , I would like the equivalent function (IE folder for bookmarks in Firefox) but the same plugin does not work on Mac. Which plugin would have that functionality ? To have access to the same folder (or a synchronized copy of Favorites) ?

Thank you

You need to keep in mind is that IE isn't a separate, installable web browser like everything else out there, it is part of the entire Microsoft Windows operating system. Trying to add an inefficient Favorites folder setup to Mac OSX or Linux would by nonsensical

Solution is very simple, Just choose firefox as your default browser.

Follow these steps :

  • Open Options
  • Click on Advanced
  • Now open General tab and click on Make FireFox The Default Browser. See Image below.

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately that does not answers my question. It is not your fault nor mine. For some unknown reason the support forum organizes the questions asked in categories.

My question is not about the title "How do I force url links ..." which words I didn't even typed !!

My question is about finding a suitable plugin, so that on a Mac, some look-alike can be working as shown in the screenshot. This is not 'importing' favorites into bookmarks ! It is about using Favorites AS BOOKMARKS as well in addition to Firefox generic bookmarks.

In windows, Firefox will display TWO Buttons together SIDE BY SIDE ('Bookmarks' and 'Favorites') in main menu (top of screen). That is is what I try to achieve on a Mac So users can make a choice to bookmark either in the Firefox classic way either directly add a link into favorites folder. "PlainOldFavorites" cannot be used on a Mac.

Export your Bookmarks from IE / Windows and then import the resulting file into Firefox.

In IE:
File > Import/Export - Export to HTML file

then in Firefox:
Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks -> Import & Backup - Import HTML... = From HTML file

Thank you. I will try it on my Mac, but I'm a bit sceptic about the obtained functionality.

My question is not about importing Favorites directly into Firefox bookmarks. To make my question to be easier to understand, I edited my previous post.

Actually I'm looking for a suitable plugin, which would do (using a Mac) what PlainOldFavorites does for Windows.

By the way, I uploaded twice a screenshot in .png format (in both last posts). Why doesn't show here ? The forum software tell it was uploaded. Do you see any picture in my last two posts ?

No, I don't see those screenshot images.

Since Microsoft hasn't made a version of Internet Explorer for Mac OSX for many years, you would need something that would create the folder of Favorites, in addition to an extension like PlainOld Favorites (POF). That is why POF doesn't exist for the Mac OSX version of Firefox, Mac doesn't have "Favorites".

Thank you.

Another attempt to show a screenshot (now .jpg) format must appear now. I hope this time it works - I repeat my statement : the previously uploaded pictures were confirmed as being uploaded; no error message either. The picture shows main menu of Firefox (dutch) with both items side by side.

As for my topic question, I was thinking to have the "Favorites" folder contents on my Macbook Pro, as a synchronized copy (source Favorites on my windows PC) This is not a problem.

The author of PlainOldFavorites has probably a major good reason not to come up with an alternate solution for OSX +Firefox.

I guess that I'm "asking for the moon" (like the french say). If by any luck I manage to find a magic trick to achieve this for Firefox on Mac, I will come back.

Thanks again.

Off topic: The Mozilla forum seems to mix English with other languages. For now it looks as I'm on a Dutch forum for English speaking people. A bit confusing isn't it ?
