I'm trying to delete the old sites in the new tab, I changed the about:blank in browser.newtab.url to about:blank and clicked on ok but the change didn't save.

I tried the steps in: If you are concerned about your privacy, you can turn this feature off completely:

In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter.
The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise! to continue to the about:config page.
Type browser.newtab.url in the search box.
Double-click the browser.newtab.url preference and change the url from about:newtab to about:blank. Alternately, you can change it to about:home for the Firefox Google home page, or type in your preferred home page, for example google.com.
Click OK and close the about:config tab.

But the Ok button didnt't save my changes.

When you look at the browser.newtab.url setting, does the status show as "default" or does it say something else, such as "locked"?

Do you have any extensions such as "speed dials" that might be taking over the page? Your extensions aren't listed with your post, so you could review them on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Anything that sounds tab-related could be changing how Firefox works.

Alternately, to see whether any extensions are relevant, you could try making the change in Firefox's Safe Mode. That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

Any difference?
