Why doesn't MacScan work on Firefox cookies, anymore?
MacScan used to detect 10-30+ tracking cookies every day - which I would remove. Then I updated Firefox and, now, Macscan only detects tracking cookies on Safari. I used the Firefox homepage to learn that the default setting on my Firefox 26 prevents tracking cookies -- but I never touched any settings on my previous versions of Firefox before -- when MacScan did work on it. Possibly, the 'prevent tracking cookies' feature didn't exist in previous versions of Firefox. But what I'm asking about is that previously MacScan would scan about 3,000 cookies. Now, it only scans about 100 Safari cookies, finds 2 or 3 tracking cookies, and it doesn't even scan Firefox cookies at all. Can someone please explain what's going on? The tech support guy from MacScan was very nice, but couldn't help me out. One other thing: A website I went to once took over my AOL toolbar. I went to the Apple Store and a 'genius' fixed the problem -- but I don't know what he did. Possibly, the MacScan issue started at this time.

In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":
- do not clear the Cookies
- do not clear the Site Preferences
- Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings

Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.
Clearing cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies with an allow exception that you would like to keep.

Mike, Firefox can be configured to not save cookies at all, or delete all cookies when you close Firefox. Maybe someone changed those settings for you. If you want to restore the default behavior, you can use this article: Settings for privacy, browsing history and do-not-track
You can also do an easy, one step reset of Firefox that removes all extensions and custom settings, but keeps your bookmarks, passwords, history, etc: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings
