firefox closes at start
Firefox closes on first attempt to start after boot. Seems to work fine after.
Windows 8.1 Comcast customer with Constant Guard Protection Suite and Norton Security Suite but all disabled Problem occurs after start or restart Persistent in safe mode Persists after Firefox reset Open in multiple pages but same with only one page

After struggling with this for a while I figured out that it was "Constant Guard Protection Suite" from Comcast/Infinity that was shutting down Firefox. This apparently occurred when CGPS first started up or when Firefox first started up. This happened even though CGPS was indicated as incompatible with Firefox 26.0 AND Firefox 27.0 and was automagically disabled. I resolved the problem by disabling the automatic startup of CGPS at boot and removing CGPS as an add-on. I have contacted CGPS support and told them what the problem is so they may be contacting you. Or not. I don't use CGPS anyway, just the Norton Security Suite that is included. Thanks for your time.

1. From task manager first of all kill Firefox process. Restart firefox now
2. If it still not restarting disable your antivirus for 5min. Once again try to start it.
3. If it runs now, remove Norton. Always prefer Security essential or defender. The above two antivirus I have mentioned are made by microsoft. These antivirus are best.
4. If it still doesn't start, redownload it from Home of the Mozilla Project — Mozilla
Are there any crash reports send or does Firefox simply close?
It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
See:
There is no crash report. Firefox just closes as if I exited or hit Alt-F4. I open two pages when I start up (two home pages). It asks if I want to close but quickly exits as if I hit "Yes" even though I have done nothing. There is some delay, like a few seconds or so, before the exit occurs. This only occurs on the first start of Firefox after boot. Subsequent starts are normal.
If you start Firefox in Safe Mode, does the problem still occur? To start in Safe Mode, hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox.
If the problem does not occur in Safe Mode, then you can disable your extensions one-by-one until you find out which one is causing the problem. See Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems.
Open your firewall program. First check the settings. Make sure that the program is set to tell you if a new program wants access to the web. Then go to the list of programs the firewall has. Make sure that all the programs you want to access the web are set to ALLOW. If it is set to AUTO, the firewall may not allow access.
Please see original post. Persistent in safe mode.
The firewall is not part of Firefox, it is a program on your computer.
Windows > Start > Search box > Firewall.
The firewall is controlled through Norton Security Suite, not Windows Firewall. I have Firefox set to "Allow" through NSS. I've explored changing the setting or removing it in NSS and I'm having a little difficulty. The removal of the setting Firefox from NSS doesn't seem to "take." I will explore this a little further and report.
