I use outlook. When I click on a link i get a message that "the address wasn't understood". I need to open links.

Do you mean Outlook, the program that is part of Microsoft Office on your PC, or Outlook, the new Hotmail?

If you right-click > Copy Link Location and then paste it into the address bar, does it start with an unusual protocol? I mean, something other than http or https? If so, Firefox might not be set up to open links with that protocol. What is it?
