I had a corrupted Win 8 computer. I thought I had identified the favorites/bookmark folder. (places.sqlite) Copied it to a stick drive.

I copied this file into my new (now Win7) operating system. Foxfire files but it didn't work. Actually deleted the some 36 new bookmarkes I had already made. Restore to day past didn't work.

Another site suggested that I backup (to my stick drive) the favorites on my backup computer. These are over a year old but that did not work either. The backup file was named bookmarks-2004-02-13json. This came from another Win 7 computer.

So I was able to back it up, but I cannot find a way to restore it to this computer. What gives?

TIA

To restore the json file go to Bookmarks >> Show all bookmarks >> Import and Backup >> Restore >> Choose file then select the json file.

You also can use the SQLite Manager to manager your sqlites files:

If that bookmarks-2004-02-13.json backup file isn't corrupted then you should be able to restore this file.
Note that restoring a JSON backup will replace all current bookmarks and you need to create an HTML backup.
If you have a corrupted places.sqlite file then you need to delete this places.sqlite file.

Thanks to everyone. Sadly I had not known about (json) files but now that I have wiped the computer and installed Win7 (not Win8) I will be careful to add that file to my backup files.

That puts an end to this problem I think. I only wish I had the guts to put in a good Linux (Mint -Cinnamon) alternative but the driver issues put a question to that. Even so, my Win 7 pro is supported until 2020 but my backup computer Win 7 Home edition is only good for a few more years.

Worse yet regarding alternative OP systems (including Mac) I suspect that Linux repairs would not be easily handled, or even Macs. My neck of the woods only has computer repair shops that basically deal with Windows OP systems.

That said: Windows has had a history of putting out good or okay OP systems beginning with Win 95 and alternating them with crap.

win95. win98, (ME*,win2000), XP in its many versions, Vista, Win 7, Win 8 and now hopefully coming to you soon the better Win 9

One last push. duckduckgo as a search engine vs. Google or Bing. Ninite is a good download provider and doesn't load crap like CNET or TUCOWS does..
