Whenever I open Firefox an extra tab is created for the website nspdlmsd/content/newtab/newtab.html

It also is the page that shows when I create a new tab instead of my homepage. I can change it to my homepage but I would rather not have to change it each time I open a new tab.

How do I stop the extra tab AND how do I use only my requested homepage?

hello, this sounds like a problem possibly caused by adware on your pc.

please go to the firefox menu New Fx Menu > addons > extensions & remove any suspicious entries ("mysearchdial", toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc).
also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there.
finally, run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes & adwcleaner.

BlockSite

BlockSite is an extension, which automagically blocks websites of your choice. Additionally, this extension will disable all hyperlinks to these websites, by just displaying the link text without the clicking functionality.

==============================================

Open a new window or tab. In the address bar, type about:config. If a warning screen comes up, press the Be Careful button. This is where Firefox finds information it needs to run. At the top of the screen is a search bar. Enter browser.newtab.url and press enter. browser.newtab.url tells Firefox what to show when a new tab is opened. If you want, right click and select Modify. You can change the setting to;

about:home (Firefox default home page),
about:newtab (shows the sites most visited),
about:blank (a blank page),
or you can enter any web page you want.

The same instructions are used for the new window setting, listed as browser.startup.homepage.
