Lightning will not install because Thunderbird cannot modify the needed file
Hello,
When trying to install Lightning 3.3.1 in the latest version of Thunderbird, I get error "Lightning will not install because Thunderbird cannot modify the needed file". This is on Win7 32 bit. I tried the same on another machine, same error...
Any suggestions?

Can you describe the steps you do to install Lightning in more detail?

Hello Christ1,
In Thunderbird, I go to "Addons => Install addon from file", and I point to the file "lightning-3.3.1-tb+sm-windows" which is in the "Downloads" folder.
I then get a warning about the author not being verified/thrusted, I ignore and select Install and that's when the warning "Lightning will not install because Thunderbird cannot modify the needed file" is shown in the red top bar that appears.

That sounds about right. Do you have an earlier version of Lightning you're trying to update, or are you installing Lightning the first time?

I'm installing Lightning for the first time. I tried installing it on two different Win7 installs, both with a fresh Thunderbird install, but get the same error.

can you install if you reboot in safe mode? Start Windows 7in safe mode with networking
