Firefox 32.0.3 very slow will not play certain videos or display certain graphs, images. Would appreciate some help please as I want a reliable machine. I am posting this on my backup machine. Was running nightly. Uninstalled it using Revo Uninstaller Advanced when the slowness started. Installed firefox as above with same problems. Tried Reset, Tried basic profile with no add ons. Profile improved so that some use could be made but still slow. e.g. www.finance.yahoo.com will not play videos from this site. Just freezes and eventually comes up with unresponsive script. Similar on www.google.com/finance - unresponsive script when trying to display images. www.speakeasy.net/speedtest will not display. (uses Java). Installed Java 67 and uninstalled old versions. IE11 runs these sites OK. Updated Adobe Shockwave and test passed. Updated Adobe Flash player. Hitman Pro finds no threats. Running Windows Security Essentials. Win7 professional 64-bit SP1 genuine regular updates. HP8100 desktop computer with Intel i5 650@3.2GHz 4GB dual channel DDR@665MHz HP304Ah motherboard, (XUI Processor) Hard disk, 232GB with 13GB space. Computer has 70 processes running. Have another lower spec desktop running Win8.1 and a i3 laptop that both run these sites OK - one with Nightly and the other with Firefox. When the system was working with Nightly the system did not bog down until I had over 30tabs open in Firefox. Nows its bogged down with only 2 tabs open.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode;

Type about:preferences<Enter> in the address bar

Select Advanced > General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?

Then restart.

Just to be accurate, what is the computer with the problem?

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

Thankyou for the safe mode, hardware acceleration idea - I will try that and report back.

Computer with problem is HP8100 running Win7 Prof - the other 2 computers mentioned do not have the problem. YesScript 2 addon helps - seems its something to do with scripts.

Thankyou for the basic profile idea which I believe I have tried. This idea did allow firefox to work from totally freezing but it still has the script problem. Run firefox.exe -p I need another day or so to try the safe mode idea as well.

Go to the web page. Once the page starts loading, press the Stop button. Mouse to the address bar and Left click the icon. A window for displaying site information should come up. Select More Information. Now select Permissions. In the menu. Set all plugins to Never or Ask. Turn off the Default option.

After, reload the page (press the shift key). Do not worry if the page looks wrong.

Thankyou to Fred and Cor-el I have created a profile and called it Blank. - No Add Ons - Extentions only one but disabled. - Plugins Recognised and Updated by Firefox all set to Always Ask - Unrecognized Plugins set to Never Activate.

Hardware Acceleration deactivated. Results: www.google.com/finance loads but will not load a graph www.finance.yahoo.com loads but will not load a graph www.megapath.com/speedtest has a blank space where the Speed Test should be. Setting Shockwave Flash to Always Activate does not change the megapath site. Both google and yahoo above are frozen for several seconds if a video is selected - then a script error appears. Going to the debugger allows the tab to be closed - otherwise the script error remains and the tab cannot be closed. In Safe Mode a slightly different result. Now only Google is frozen. Megapath asks "Activate Adobe Flash" with the same result - a blank and now yahoo comes up with a blank instead of crashing as above.

Check the programs that are on your computer

Windows: Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs. Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

Go thru the list. If you find something that you don't know what it is, use a web search.

Try to uninstall and reinstall Flash.

You can check for problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions and try this:

Used glarysoft.com glary utilities 5. In the advanced tab there is a "check for updates" utility. It flags all the outdated software on your computer. You can then uninstal what you dont recognise and update others.

In my case I thought I had the latest firefox and flash but I did not. Updating Firefox to 33.0.2 and Flash player for non IE version 15.0.0.189 has not fixed it.

www.driverupdate.net and downloaded slimdrivers. Scan indicates updates needed. Makes a system restore point etc. Found this very useful as well but it has not fixed problem.

Tried reinstalling Flash. Started Firefox in Safe mode. Went to helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html "Check if flash player is installed on your computer" Check Now click. "Your Flash Version 15.0.0" on my other computer where firefox is working properly it says "Your Flash Version 15.0.0.189" "Verify if Flash Player is installed" does not work. The helpx test works fine with IE on the same computer.
