Using firefox sync on multiple desktops. Will there be duplications or will they merge?

For example if I set up sync on my desktop at work and then come home later and login to sync on my home desktop what happens to my current tabs, folders, and bookmarks on my home PC will they merge or will there be duplications and will I lose anything on my home PC? I'm not sure which one I need to create the account on first or if it matters? At one point I copied my work folders with my tabs and added them at home so there is a lot of duplication currently. I would like for them to be the same but not loose anything.
