Mozilla Thunderbird upgraded and we cannot write mail or use many of the features.
I cannot get to my inbox without opening a new tab or window. Cannot forward email. Cannot write a new message. Help is only in the far right hand area, no longer in the tool bar. What happened with this update?? How can I get back to the way it was?

- start Thunderbird in safe mode
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode
- go to tools | addons - remove the lightning addon - restart - start thunderbird - if you need the lightning addon, add it back at tools | addons

How do I get to safe mode? Even if I run as administrator, when I get to add-ons, nothing further appears.

In safe mode with all add-ons disabled, the problems were gone.

Great.
So, you were able to remove lightning??
It appeared not to be there. Whether I removed it or not, it seems to be fine. I do not have to open it in the safe mode to get all the properties correct.
