Somehow all my e-mail addresses are out of alphabetical order when I bring up the address sidebar; however, if I go directly to the address list(s), they're OK. How do I correct this?

The contact sidebar is no different than any other display in Thunderbird. Click any column header to sort on that column. Click that same header a second time to reverse the sort. A small pointer will be on the header that is being used as the sort column.

In your case click on the header NAME.

Like most any list in Thunderbird, if you click "Name" in the Contacts Sidebar the list re-sorts. Click again to reverse the sorting order.
