An earlier solution (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1008285) shows how to get started. If the message goes away . safe mode, turn off all extensions, then restart. Turn them on again one by one until you find the offending extension.

In my case it was extension "Mozilla Partners" (go figure). Disable and/or remove the extension.

Remember each time you see the "Make Firefox your default browser" message, it sets the check box to "check every time". So you must un check the box each time it is displayed before closing the browser.

Thanks for your response. The purpose of my post is to point out that ALL EXISTING SOLUTIONS do not work. The reason is that a add-on is setting the check condition ON, despite the setting to turn it OFF.

The solution is to find the offending add-on as described above, and disable that add-on. Then the prompt can be disabled.

Hello! If you paste "about:config" into your URL Browser bar. And then search for Defaultbrowser. There are some preferences you can mess around with, disable, etc. to suit your needs with the popup!
