hoxx vpn addon disabling other vpn addons
Hello,
installed hoxx vpn addon on deb stretch ff browser, created hoxx account through addon, activated one of their vpns and removed the addon shortly after; upon which I realized other vpn addons like zenmate would not work as usual. The icons and interfaces work as usual, but my visible IP is not the one which the addon says it should be. I copied that ff-profile to another OS and had the same result, meaning the changes causing the problem are definitely within the ff profile. Any idea what settings hoxx did overwrite so that other vpn addons don't work anymore?
thanks a lot, SF

Alright, I found it: if hoxx vpn addon is either disabled or uninstalled, it changes (at least) these 2 settings:
.) network.proxy.proxy_over_tls to false (true is default) - why the frigging hell are they doing this?
.) network.proxy.type to 0, even if another vpn connection is active at that time.
It's the former setting that is rendering the other addons ineffective - the other addons are not touching that setting upon install, since it's boolean type and the default value is the one they need.
I find this to be a very aggressive behavior from hoxx to do this - reminds me a bit of how Microsoft is treating other OS's.
Took me several hours to fix this - screw you hoxx.
