Problem With Icons Appearing As Boxes of Numbers and Letters
Can anyone please tell me how to stop seeing boxes full of letters and numbers instead of icons on certain websites I visit ? I attach a small picture of what I mean as an example. It only applies to a very small number but it does make navigating around the sites difficult.
I would be most grateful for any advice offered.
Thanks

Many thanks for that information. With each of the members in the forum seeing different things in the icon boxes I wondered if the problem might be with the source website and not the users accessing it.
I'll contact them immediately.
Many thanks, Gary

Special icons are usually supplied by an icon font that is downloaded from the server via @font-face CSS rules.
Make sure you allow pages to choose their own fonts.
- Options/Preferences -> General: Fonts & Colors -> Advanced
[X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"
If you use uBlock Origin make sure not to "block remote fonts".
Hello, Thank you for replying. I have already made sure that the setting is for that is correct on my PC. I have just discovered that I use a certain forum on the internet and every member of it is experiencing the same problem so maybe it's more to do with the site settings rather than my PC.
It's only on a few websites it happens so that would suggest maybe the answer lies with the website owner rather than my computer settings.
I'll keep digging but thanks for the suggestion.
Regards Gary
Can you post a link to a publicly accessible page (i.e. no authentication or signing on required)?
Are there issues reported in the Web Console about reloading remote fonts ?
Hello there, thanks for responding. Here's a link https://www.spurs-web.com/forum/
Some people report boxes with numbers and letters in the top right corner and elsewhere wheras some just see a box with a cross in it.
The website is having server problems I think as it's not updating posts correctly or giving up to date info on statistics for members ratings etc.
Appreciate your help
Regards Gary
The Web Console and Network Monitor show that there are issues with CORS that force Firefox to block retrieving the font files.
This could be a problem with a location redirect from https://spurs-web.com to https://www.spurs-web.com where using the www. prefix isn't consistent. So maybe contact the website and ask them to look into this.
