Thunderbird constantly crashes [@ OOM | large | NS_ABORT_OOM | nsTSubstring<T>::Append | GatherLine ] for imap account
Since the last update, Thunderbird has had major problems. It seemed to lose all my folders and accounts, eventually it found them (but completely lost several folders), and all the filters seemm to be screwed up. Now, it has taken to crashing within seconds of starting the program. Any ideas? This has only been since the recent update to 102.0b4 (32 bit). Most recent crash reports in attached image - I can't keep the program running long enough to do anything else.
Any help appreciated.

Hi kiwi. None of those crashes have been submitted. You'll want to click the submit button. A submitted crash will have "BP-" in the front of each set of numbers.
Then in the troublehooting display copy the text of the crash IDs and paste them here. (please not a screen shot)
For more info about crashes see https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/mozilla-crash-reporter-tb
Hi Wayne,
Unfortunately I can't keep Thunderbird open long enough to do anything. It crashes within a few seconds every time. It's the same in troubleshooting mode (safe mode??). Any other way I can get this info, maybe a log file?.
Oh, what fun!
Let's make the first priority step to get the crash IDs. Start Thunderbird into the profile manager https://support.mozilla.org/kb/using-multiple-profiles, create a new profile, then use profile manager to start TB with that new profile. You can cancel out of adding any accounts. Then submit your crash reports and post the crash IDs here.
Having those crash IDs may help identify our next step.
Hi again,
I have created a new profile, and used it to start Thunderbird and tried to submit the unsubmitted crash reports, but they all show as "failed".
I have the following recent crash reports that have successfully submitted:

Thanks for the crash reports. Assuming you are on 64bit Windows, I would start by downloading the 64bit Thunderbird from https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/download/beta/ and let it install over top of the 32bit version.
If that doesn't help, start Windows in safe mode then start Thunderbird in troubleshoot mode? (hold shift while starting TB)
OK, have installed latest version of 64 bit Thunderbird. However, when I start it, I get this error message:
You must have downloaded and installed version 91. You want version 102 from https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/download/beta/ Make sure it installs in and overwrites the current program directory.
Have now made sure the download was 102 and installed it.
It now stays up for almost a minute before crashing (as opposed to 10 secs before).

- Please start *Windows'* in safe mode with networking enabled
win10 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12376/windows-10-start-your-pc-in-safe-mode
- Still in Windows safe mode, start Thunderbird in Troubleshoot mode
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-mode-thunderbird
Does problem go away?
Tried the above, same problem. crashes after less than a minute in Windows safe mode and Thunderbird troubleshooting mode.

Unfortunately the same.
I have filed a bug report at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1776633 where hopefully someone will have questions for you. If you can determine the exact message causing the crash that would be great. Please make certain you save said message first, if you have intentions of deleting it
Questions for you at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1776633#c2 ...
Are the accounts for incoming messages imap, pop or news (nntp)? Or maybe a mixture? Are they configured to check for new messages at tb start?
Hi Wayne,
All accounts are IMAP. No POP3 or news accounts. TB is configured to look for new messages at startup.
Cheers,
Simon
Can you try a nightly build using a new Thunderbird profile?
OK tried that. Used an email address that I rarely use (but which existed in the crashing version of Tbird). So far it seems stable - no crashes. I'll leave it overnight and report further.
Cheers,
Simon
Still stable and crash-free. Do you want me to try it with my original profile and see what happens?

that will be useful, yes.
OK not familiar with this Daily thing. Can you advise where to find profiles.ini?
