I just created a password for Firefox, and now it shows too many dots. Is it a mistake?
I've been using Firefox for years, and I don't remember ever having a password, but it asked me for one when I set up a new Operating System. So it wanted my email addy, and I gave them the password for that addy. They wouldn't accept it. Then I created a new password, and now it shows too many dots for the password I created. I'm really confused now. Already they have sent me 8 different "Account Authorization Codes." I have no idea what is going on now, and I don't know if the password I created is the one that they now have because there is no "eye" to show me what they think that my password is. Like I said, they are showing too many dots, and there is no way for me to find out what they think my password is!

Thank you, Dropa. I did not understand why a page kept coming up asking me for my Firefox password. I didn't think that I had ever gotten one before, but I couldn't seem to get going on Firefox without that request for a password appearing and reappearing. I have had a lot of trouble with my computer lately, and an Apple representative advised me to NOT use whatever Time Machine information that I had saved, thinking that something was amiss in what I had saved on Time Machine when I changed from Mohave to Catalina recently. So by not using Time Machine, I couldn't access a lot of the Passwords that I had saved in Time Machine throughout the years for many other sites, so I assumed that I really needed one for Firefox, too. Thank you for setting me straight! I just hit my 78th birthday, so I did not grow up with all of this computer technology and the jargon that accompanies how to set up a new operating system without using Time Machine to fill in the gaps.
The number of dots may not matter as some applications show a random or fixed number of dots to prevent revealing the length of the password. Did you try to use the password ? Are you sure that this is a Firefox password as Firefox doesn't require a password ?
Can you attach a screenshot?

Hello, Cor-el, I haven't used the password at all, I just created one. It was either for Firefox or Mozilla. It was probably because I had been on the phone for hours all day with Apple, getting different advice from different Apple representatives, and was working way past midnight last night trying to figure things out for myself. I was totally exhausted, so it's no wonder that I wasn't making sense about this situation. At this point, I have no idea on what page I saw the dots-that-represented-the-password-I-created, and I am guessing that's what you wanted to see in a screenshot. And now that I know that I don't need it, it's no big deal, right? I suspect that you are correct when you said "The number of dots may not matter as some applications show a random or fixed number of dots to prevent revealing the length of the password." That was exactly what I was hoping to hear! Thank you!
