Firefox freezes with sandboxie.
Hi!
This is an old question, but now over the time i can be more specific with this problem.
What i know now in windows 10:
- with firefox ESR sandboxie works fine all the time (now I use v 115.8.0);
- with current firefox (v123) what happens is, after install current version, every time i open firefox, it works fine, but if i select "pause forcing programs", to change something in firefox, this means open firefox without sandboxie, now the first time i open firefox again sandboxie, it´s freeze, and can´t use for this moment now firefox sandboxie. Only works without sandboxie.
Thanks in advance.

Interesting app. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgMql7fkkn0 Let me see if I understand your logic... Your issue is that Sandboxie doesn't work with the current version of Firefox?
Try testing older versions to find when it stopped working.
Hi jonzn4SUSE, I'm a long time user of sandboxie, I know how to use the software, I bought a license in TZUK time, but thanks for your video. Yes, I can't use firefox when it's sandboxie because the current version doesn't work, only esr vesion.
Thank you.
Not concerned about you time using the app, more concerned about who you think needs to address this issue. Are you saying that Mozilla is responsible for ensuring that Sandboxie work with the current version?
Hi zeroknight, I tried in this order (v40 x86 works) (v66 x64 works) (69 x64 works) (95 x64 works) (103 x64 works) (106 x64 works) (115 x64 works) (123 x64 doesn't work) (119 x64 doesn't work) (117 x64 doesn't work) (115.0.3 x64 works) (116 x64 doesn't work) (115.0b9 works) Conclusion, the last version that works is 115.0b9 and the problem appears in v 116. Thanks.

If I understand this, you launch Firefox in the sandbox. No problems. Then you launch Firefox outside the sandbox. Once Firefox is running outside the sandbox, the Firefox in the sandbox is frozen.
How do you start Firefox outside the sandbox -- do you direct it to use a different profile? If the sandbox works correctly, I don't see how processes could mix between the inside and outside, so I think you should not be able to start Firefox in the same profile (you should get an error message). If you are using a different profile, then normally they are independent instances and neither should affect the other.
Thanks for your reply jscher2000.

Yes, after the first installation of current version of Firefox (version 116 to 123), and because sandboxie plus are instructed to always open this browser sandboxie, like edge for instance, Firefox opens sandboxie with the welcome screen and other things, and because that I need configured Firefox for this not happen again. If I do not configurate Firefox, obvious always open with welcome screen, like the first installation. To do that I need select an option in sandboxie plus "pause forcing programs" to not open Firefox sandboxie and make the changes. I do that, this means open Firefox and make the changes, and until now everything it's ok. Now I put again Firefox sandboxie, unselect "pause forcing programs" in sandboxie plus, and after that the first time I open Firefox it´s frozen, and I can´t no more use the current version of Firefox (version 116 to 123). If I do the exact same thing with Firefox ESR (extended) everything is ok.

I do not change anything in sandboxie plus, except select and unselect "pause forcing programs", this means I do not make a new profile.
Thanks in advance.
Does it make a difference if you wait a bit longer (one minute) between the various launch of Firefox to give Firefox enough time to flush all data to the profile folder?
cor-el, thanks try to help.
Unfortunately doesn't work, with 10 minutes.
Thanks.
Are the sandboxed and unsandboxed Firefox running at the same time? If so, can you make the changes you need to make without having then run at the same time?
Thanks for your reply jscher2000.
I don´t run simultaneously Firefox, one sandboxie and another unsandboxie, but I have done exact the opposite that what you suggest, install and run v123, v115, and firefox esr, simultaneously which one sandboxie and unsandboxie.
Results, the only one don´t run it´s v123 sandboxie, the others run well, and for example this post are make with v115 sandboxie.
I have a dual boot windows 7 and w10 both x64, and I don´t thing this matter for have this problem.
Thanks.

You can narrow it down more with daily Nightly builds between 2023-06-05 (115) and 2023-07-04 (116). Normally this could be automated with mozregression.
