Hello LD.

You may be having a problem with some extension or plugin that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?

more options

I guess I'm not sure how to make that happen. Firefox comes open with the previously described window, and I am not allowed to do anything as it crashes shortly after. Is there a way to disable the add-ons prior to opening Firefox? I'm not to much of a computer wiz..I can drive it all day, but I never get under the hood...I have attached a screen shot of the message I get.

more options

Yes, there is a way. Use safe mode: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode

Also, you didn't attach any image...

more options

Okay...I open it in safe mode and before I could click on "disable add-ons" it crashed and gave me the same message. I added the image below. Selected "choose file" etc...I will do so again..?

I can't see anything :( Try using some site like http://imageshack.us/

Ok...uploaded it to image shack. Link: http://yfrog.com/15firefoxtroublep

Hum... If it crashes just in the safe mode interface, it's something else... See this:

http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox+crashes+when+you+open+it#Getting_your_crash_report

After you follow these instructions (the ones under Getting your crash report), please provide a link for your crash report. Maybe we can work from there.

Well..no luck. I went to the Library/Application support, but there is no Firefox/crash Report...There is no Firefox anything. I know I filled that out at least twice and submitted it, but apparently I must have done something incorrect. I'll go thru it again and see what happens.

The crash reporter doesn't appear to be working...Here are the details that were contained in the report:

Add-ons: {0538E3E3-7E9B-4d49-8831-A227C80A7AD3}:0.9.10.2, :3.63,{972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}:3.6.3 BuildID: 20100401064631 Comments: I get an error message, " well, this is embarrassing"..and Firefox crashes CrashTime: 1274739017 EMCheckCompatibility: true Email: DeToons@sbcglobal.net FramePoisonBase: 00000000f0dea000 FramePoisonSize: 4096 InstallTime: 1270304892 ProductName: Firefox ReleaseChannel: release SecondsSinceLastCrash: 2699 StartupTime: 1274738966 Theme: classic/1.0 Throttleable: 1 Vendor: Mozilla Version: 3.6.3

This report also contains technical information about the state of the application when it crashed.

Ok, this is what I found:

0538E3E3-7E9B-4d49-8831-A227C80A7AD3 is Forecastfox. AE93811A-5C9A-4d34-8462-F7B864FC4696 is Stumbleupon. 972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd, I don't know what it is, but I've found reports that it causes crashes.

Other than that, the report doesn't seem particularly helpful to me. Do this:

  1. go into your profile folder (see here for info on how to)
  2. inside your profile folder, there is a folder called extensions. Open it.
  3. cut all the folders inside that folder into a safe location (for backup purposes). If I'm not mistaken, this will function as deleting all extensions from your profile.
  4. try running Firefox now, see if it crashes.
more options

Sorry, I am unable to do that as the route to get to the "Profile folder" is: Library/Application Support/Firefox/profiles.." I don't have a Firefox folder in my Application Support folder..?

more options

I'm not a mac user, so I can't provide in-depth support in that aspect, but try to create a new profile, just to see if it keeps crashing:

http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing+profiles

Hopefully you'll be able to create it before it crashes...

more options

Ok...I need to go for awhile..I'll try making a profile and see what happens. Thanks for your assistance.

more options

The instructions to create a profile were for PC..I thought I would try getting rid of 3.6 and try loading an old 3.5, no luck there either..I guess I'm going to have to go back to Safari..I really liked Firefox, but not meant to be for some reason. Thanks again for your attempt to help me get it going.

more options

At the top of the article (the link I gave you), you can customize what instructions are given to you. There is a place that says "Show content customized for:". Just select Mac OS.

more options

Ok..got to the the place to create a new profile. Clicked on "Create a new profile" and the crash report window came up..tried it a couple of times, but no luck..

more options

Ok... Read this article and backup your information:

http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information

Then uninstall Firefox completely (check the place, when uninstalling, where it says to delete personal data). Then install Firefox again. This will create a new profile.

Hopefully it won't crash then (we'll see about restoring your data after that).

more options

Unfortunately, the backup process appears to be something that you do when Firefox is running..since I can't get it open, I can't do that. I have already done my best to throw everything that says Mozilla or Firefox on it and try to reinstall. I've done that twice with 3.6 and even tried going back a version...same result every time. I'm afraid I'm going to have to put this aside for now. As you may imagine, I'm beginning to get frustrated with this, but I really need to try and get some work done..so again, thanks for trying.
