Downloaded PDF file is not readable

more options

From more than one site, I have downloaded PDF files and saved them on my computer. I am running the latest version of Firefox under Win 7 32 bit. When I go to open the file with either Adobe Reader 9 or Foxit latest version I get an error message stating that the file is not in a recognized format or is corrupted. (Though the content of the messages differ, that is the substance.) Downloading the same file in IE produces files that can be read by either PDF reader.

I am not attempting to read the file in Firefox, just download it and then open it. None of the threads that I have explored appear to address this issue. Any help would be appreciated as I really don't want to use IE any more.

Thanks!!

A quick update on my problem. After I posted this issue, I remembered seeing a post somewhere that mentioned an unfixed bug that occurs when the downloaded file is being saved to a folder on a network computer, not the computer from which is was downloaded. This is what I am doing. So, to test this, I changed the location where FireFox saves downloaded files from the mapped network location to a folder on the computer I am using to do the the download. Guess what? The downloaded files are OK and not considered "corrupted." I cannot find the post that indicated that this is a problem with FF transferring the file to the network computer without giving it the full NTFS file properties, but this appears to be the issue. So, I guess that I just resolved my own issue. Go figure.

I am having the same problem. My default download folder is on a network share. Most of the time when I download an executable or a zip file, the file is corrupt. I have been having this problem for weeks. It did not occur to me that it was a FireFox bug, until today. I am surprised more people are not reporting this problem. Perhaps they are as unsuspecting as I was.

My configuration: Win7 x64 I am running with a profile that does not have admin rights.

Should I report this bug on the development site?

I think someone already did report this: Bug 545650 – Downloading (large) files to network drive on Windows 7 results in corrupted files.

Note about Bugzilla etiquette: feel free to vote for the bug, but don't add "me too" comments that don't contribute to solving the problem.
