Upgraded to 3.6.4 & Firefox takes forever to start!
I upgraded to 3.6.4 and after the upgrade, Firefox was taking forever to start. Task manager showed the program running but it would literally take 15 minutes before the browser would actually show up. Pages would not load. I went ahead and uninstalled and downgraded back to 3.6.3. Now, it's also not running correctly! I can't even get Mozilla support pages to load so I had to use my desktop to get online.
What went wrong and how do I fix this??
This happened
Every time Firefox opened

Hello Nikita.
You may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in safe mode and select Disable all add-ons. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See this article for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.
If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.
No, I already tried starting up in Firefox Safe Mode with the plugins turned off and I still had the same problem. I thought it might have been the plugins too but it's not.
Please try creating a temporary new profile: managing profiles. This is just for diagnostic purposes. See if the new profile has the same problems.
I tried that too as I went searching online for solutions to my problem. Creating a new profile still resulted in the same problem, even with the add-ons disabled.
I think I'll downgrade even further to 3.5.10 as maybe it's something in the 3.6 update that is causing the problem.
Nikita, see if your Firewall is the cause of the problem. Firefox 3.6.4 has a new file called plugin-container.exe, and badly configured Firewalls may cause issues.
I'm experiencing the same issue.
Firewall has been set to allow Firefox all access to the internet but still the same problem.
I'm really frustrated with this and seriously thinking of just switching to Google Chrome. At least, I had used Xmarks to save my bookmarks so I can import those into Chrome from Firefox.
Have you tried reinstalling Firefox? No data will be lost. You can get the latest version at getfirefox.com. Please ensure that you uninstall your current installation prior to installing Firefox again. You don't need to delete your private data. But please ensure that the folder where Firefox is installed (tipically C:/Program Files/Mozilla Firefox/) is deleted after you uninstall Firefox, prior to installing it again. This is not the folder where your private data is stored.
If reinstalling doesn't help, do a malware scan.
Scan for malware Install, update and run these programs in this order. They are all free for personal use, but some have limited functionality in the "free mode", but those are features you really don't need to find and remove the problem that you have. (Not all programs detect the same Malware.)

If that doesn't help either, make sure your are following my instructions to the line. Often users will skip parts of advice because they think they know better, and maybe they do, but if I don't know exactly what has been done, I can't be of much help.
