So I'm using Firefox version 3.6.6 and the Flash plugin version 10.1.53.64, and about a minute or two into every Firefox session the entire browser crashes and gives me the option to send a report and either restart or quit Firefox.

I know what I'm doing and thus don't need the kid-glove responses I've seen in some other threads about this, the problem is not on my end, it's with the software. No problems were occuring before Firefox 3.6.6. Please tell me how to fix the problem you created, ASAP.

Operating system

Windows Vista 32-bit

same problem, flash 10.1 plugin crashing firefox 3.6.6 on osx 10.6.4

I had the same issue. Disabling Flash 10.1 plugin did the trick. Sites which caused FF 3.6.6 to hang now load correctly.

Same problem of constantly crashing when opening multiple tabs.

To prevent Firefox from crashing, you have to disable plugin-container.exe which has been introduced with version 3.6.4 and is running in the background, controlling the plugings, e.g. Adobe Flash.

Type about:config in the url bar and do the following:

Also, update Java (JRE) to the latest version.

On my PC, the "plugin-container.exe" process was using up most/all of my CPU (you can confirm this on your PC with "Task Manager") when I opened up multiple tabs.

My solution was to use Firefox 3.5.10 which you can get from the Mozilla website at "http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html". I am using Adobe Flash 10.1.53.64 without any problem in this version of Firefox. Check the release notes, I believe it contains all the latest security fixes in Firefox 3.6.4

Hopefully, they will fix Firefox 3.6 in the next version (e.g. Firefox 3.6.7).

I am not experiencing the crashing issue, just a massive slowdown (almost a freeze) on pages using Flash. This has only been occurring since I upgraded from FF 3.6.3, so it has to be something to do with the crash protection. Further evidence of this is that I had updated Flash to 10.1 while still on FF 3.6.3 without experiencing the slowdown, nor do I experience it using Flash 10.1 with Google Chrome or LunaScape6 using the Gecko engine. Also, I disabled all extensions and plugins except for Flash and restarted FF and still experienced the slowdown.

This is not the first time a FF update has broken something that was previously working; FF 3.6 broke the PayPal plugin. Frankly, it is blunders like this that are causing user to abandon FF for something else.

I had the same problem - Certain pages with flash ALWAYS caused Firefox to freeze. I disabled firetorrent as suggested in a previous post. Now it works fine.

Firefox 3.6.6 running on XP crashes constantly. I tried everything with no luck until I found the solution - I switched to Google Chrome and everything works fine now.

Disable FireTorrent, that worked for me.

Same issues. However, I have never had the add-on "Firetorrent." I also disabled Flash, and the problem still wasn't resolved. Moreover, if I simply open Firefox and let it sit for 2 - 3 minutes, it crashes. Very frustrating, since my work is web-based. Has anyone seen any other proposed solutions or a post from Mozilla regarding this?

I don't have the FireTorrent add-on.

3.6.4 and 3.6.6 crash on flash containing sites.

Got the same issue since updating to 3.6.6 and flash 10.1 .

Well, thanks for the FireTorrent tip. Some of you people are pretty smart! Same problem for me and I removed FireTorrent. All is well now!

I will bet I have sent 100's of crash reports since 3.6.6. Does Mozella even care anymore. This has been the worst update in history. Firefox 3.6.6 is so crash prone I am forced to use IE. This may be good time to try Chrome.

I had the same problem and disabling plugin-container.exe fixed it as AntiPluginContainer says and I can now watch flash content without firefox crashing.
