I just upgraded to Firefox 5.0. I also had this problem with Firefox 4.0 and couldn't fix so had to revert to 3.6+. I have a screen print, but don't see where I can upload it. Basically the tabs in firefox overwrite the title bar, which means the text in the title bars overwrites the text in the tables and makes it impossible to read. Plus the whole setup makes clicking on and closing the tabs extremely difficult. Last time (when I got 4.0) I found it so frustrating I uninstalled 4.0 and went back to 3.6. I really expected it to be fixed in 5.0 or I would not have upgraded.

That happens if you run Firefox maximized and the menu bar is hidden and you see the orange Firefox button.

You can set the pref browser.tabs.drawInTitlebar to false on the about:config page.

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.
You can use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a pref more easily.

Thanks for the hint, but this configuration option is the cause it must not be working for the Mac version of Firefox. Went to about:config, set that setting to false, restarted, and nothing is changed. Still having the problem.

Wish someone at Mozilla would look into this. When I had the problem in 4.0, I found others also having this problem. Many of them added an add-on to fix the problem, but the add-on caused my browser to freeze, so it was not a good solution for me.

P.S. this is not happening just when the window is maximized. It is happening all the time on my Mac. Which is a Macbook. Saw something on a forum which indicated someone thought it was a problem on smaller screens such as on laptops. Don't know if this is true, but thought I'd add that I have a laptop just in case there is some sort of connection.

You can move the tab bar to its original position below the Navigation Toolbar via View > Toolbars > [] Tabs on Top.
