Firefox 13's new tab page appears blank, just like in older versions. Why?
After my beta install upgraded from 12 to 13 yesterday, the new tab page was working as advertised. When I started my computer today, however, the new tab page appeared blank, just as it did in older versions of Firefox. What happened? Any idea how to fix it?

Did you click on the upper right icon "Hide the new tab page" displayed on about:newtab?

Thank you all sorted now! :)
Is there a setting that empties the cache upon Mozilla shutdown? Should the Cache be unchecked in the Clear Recent History drop down?
Thanks, bab
For now you will have to avoid clearing the cache on shutdown if you want to see thumbnails on the new tab page or you will have to revisit the 9 websites to regenerate the thumbnails.
In a future Firefox version the thumbnails will be stored to their own cache folder named thumbnails in the Firefox Profile Folder to avoid this.
How does one insure that the cache will not be cleared on shutdown. Should I simply uncheck Cache in the Clear Recent History dropdown? Or is there a button setting somewhere that clears recent history when Firefox is closed?
Thanks, bab
Yes, you can uncheck the Cache item on the settings for clearing recent history.
- Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history" > [X] Clear history when Firefox closes > Settings

The MarMod add-on also seems to prevent this feature working. I'll see if I can tweak the settings.
MarMod has a feature "Open in new tab", with options Blank, Home and URL. How do I set this to enable the New Tabs Page feature?
I don't have an extension or Add-on called Mar-Mod. The new tab only show when I open Firefox in safe mode. If there is a way to use the new tab and retain the bookmarks toolbar, I'd like to know. I like the new feature, but I also want the toolbar as there are items there I don't go to every day.
Thanks, bab
How did you fix it (using Tab Mix Plus)? Thanks in advance!

Phloo,
In my case it was the AVG Security Toolbar extension -- not the AVG plugin. For whatever reason, that was interfering with the new tab.
You can determine if it's one of your add-ons that blocking the new tab by going to Firefox Help and selecting Restart with add-ons disabled. If that gets you the new tab you just have to figure out which add-on is blocking it. There are some other potential fixes in the earlier discussions in this thread.
By the way, one can still have the old Bookmarks Toolbar and the new tab as well.
Cheers, BAB
Thanks for your reply. I will wait until the next update of FF. Maybe it's fixed then because so many have this problem.
My addon list is quit big and I dont wanna spend so much time just to see some thumbnails ;)
For me it was extension Live TV Community Toolbar. Disabled all extensions, enabled one at time. Now New Tab feature works as advertised. Thanks for the input.
count yourselves lucky, i forget its there every time i install firefox. now, if only there was a way to delete the button to prevent it from coming back

That's ridiculous that new tab page is related with browser cache. It should have been manuel like Opera. Any website we want should be added easily...Why Firefox cannot see the opportunities?
The new tab will change from the general browser cache with a future update. Or so it is said.

Hopefully they do..

- bug 744388 - [Page Thumbnails] implement a custom storage, don't use the file cache
