I had looked at those answers, but the wording in the dialogs does not make me confident.

The recommended merge options says "Firefox Sync will now merge all this computer's browser data into your Sync account" - this is quite clearly the wrong direction. However the explicit sync to this computer will clobber the history here, so none of the options seem safe.

It was also worth making it known that this bug happened.

Now a pet peeve - why would anyone put text on a screen, say in a dialog, that cannot be copied to the clipboard.

Try some maintenance on the places.sqlite database file on the home computer if not all bookmarks got synced.
