Is "Recordchecker" extension a virus?
I recently updated to Firefox 25.0 from the Mozilla website. Has it been hijacked or infected? Since then the extension "Record checker" keeps appearing. Ihave removed the extension and restarted several times, even deleting the files from the hard drive. I have de-installed Firefox and deleted all of the profile, cache etc from the hard drive, cleaned the Registry then reinstalled. It still re-appears! Any suggestions how I can completely block it? I cannot find the URL to enter on the Blocker.
If Firefox is not infected it would suggest that one of the news channels such as BBC is infected or someone is getting past the varios firwalls and malware scanners.
Thanks

ryanbart, thanks for the answer.
I had tried most of your suggestions before posting.
MalwareBytes had already found outgoing connectoins to IP 74.120.16.xxx which I had blocked.
HitmanPro found a remnant of Piko (or something like that) from kabam.com offering "free games", even though I thought that I had searched on the whole HDD for and cleared what was found.
Since then it has been quiet and Recordchecker has not returned!
Strange though that it started just after updating Firefox.

This could be you actually have a virus on your PC previously not a problem with the Mozilla download.
Thanks RyanTheEpic, I have run several flavours of scans for virus and malware, even resorted to a back-up system (known to be clean before). I will try scanning again.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
- Microsoft Safety Scanner
- MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
- TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility
- Hitman Pro
- ESET Online Scanner
Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
