email does not stay bold

I am setting up a new computer, using thunderbird again. For some reason, even when my old computer is turned off, the emails come in bold, showing I have not read them yet. Then, even before I have a change to read the email. it becomes non bold, like I have read it.

Can you help me with this, I use fatcow. On my old computer, the messages would stay bold until I had read them, which I what I am trying to accomplish. Thank you.

My guess is your new account is IMAP and it is reflecting the read state on the server, perhaps after you see mail on your phone.
