TB always puts quotes around a gmail addy and mail is returned.
I try to delete the quotes but they reappear. Have correct addy in my address book but it makes no difference. I have another contact with a gmail address & can send to her without a problem.

The quotes usually mean the addrsss has a space either before of after it in the address book.
addy in address book is fine, no spaces. but whenI address email to this person, the quotes appear and I cannot get rid of them. Mail is returned. Thanks, Matt, for your time.
visually it is fine, but clearly it is not .

Not sure what you mean. I have two gmail accounts in my address book. My mail gets thru to one of them but not the other. I have edited this entry in my address book to eliminate the quotes, but it does not solve the problem. I also access my email via my ISP website, and have no problem sending to this person. So the problem is with Thunderbird.
try typing the whole email address into the email and sending. DO NOT USE THE ADDRESS BOOK ENTRY.
