my dock disappears when firefox browser (latest version) is opened all other programs dont do this. Imac less than one year old version 10.8.5
after updating recently to the latest version of firefox my dock is vanishing when I open the browser. I have to click on the bare desktop and the dock reappears. it does not happen with any other application. I checked my dock preferences and nothing there makes any difference if changed.

- Is the application in full screen? This causes the dock to disappear.
- Also, is a shortcut in the application set to COMMAND+OPTION+D? That is the Mac OS shortcut to hide the dock
- The new Firefox has also shown better performance in Mac OS 10.9 Maverciks. Download it here {Opens the OSX Mavericks in the MacApp Store}
- Restart your Mac. It is good to restart it every few days or it starts acting up. Try setting a schedule so that it restarts say, every Sunday night at 11 pm.
- Finally, send a screenshot! It really helps! Press COMMAND+SHIFT+4 to change your mouse pointer to a crosshair, then drag it from corner to corner. The screenshot will appear on the desktop.
Thanks! Hope I can solve your problem!

Jackson, Thank you kindly for your help. BTW The application was not in full screen. I tried the Mavericks download but as it was going to be a very very long download, I decided to restart the Imac instead and it has solved the issue. I really appreciate the options you suggested as I am not a power user and like things simple. In a way I wish I never had to change computers or update software but I know that leaves me vulnerable to hackers so I grudgingly comply. All the best!
