How do I get Thunderbird to work with a new TimeWarner Cable email account
My email used to come from the Insight server (in Lexington KY area) and worked perfectly with Thunderbird. TWC bought Insight but I continued to use their server. But the server has gone down in the past day or two (or else TWc has changed something and is blaming it on Thunderbird; I have see both discussed on the internet). The only was I can get my email is directly through the twc.com server which apparently runs something called Roadrunner. I cannot send at all. My thunderbird no longer works: I can't send or receive email. I have set up a new account in thunderbird giving my new twc.com address but thunderbird says it can't authenticate my account. I have spent over 60 minutes on the phone with the highest level of twc support and we have dicked around with ports and all that but nothing works. Help!!

Using Norton by any chance?
Almost all issues relating to connectivity fall into three categories
- Wrong settings
- Bad Anti virus/Firewall products.
- Other ( which has about a million sub categories and represents about 1% of issues, so we try not to go there.
In your case it may be a the anti virus This site says Starting June 17, you must complete the Internet and e-mail registration process to continue to access the Web. Time Warner will issue new e-mail addresses ending in @twc.com. Customers can continue to login to an Insight e-mail account at mail.insightbb.com until June 2014, after which time addresses with the insightbb.com domain no longer will be supported.
Thetime warner welcome site says things are happening from the 10th and 17th, so neither of those dates have arrived yet.
That leaves me to think the issue is outside the changeover. I think it might be anti virus or firewall issues;
- Restart the operating system in safe mode with Networking. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, OSX
- If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.
