FF ver 38.0.5 - Untrusted Connection on many websites (google certificate fails, bing is OK). I get the 2 options when going into google so i have added an exception but I only 1 option (Get me out of here) with most websites.

This is happening with my PC at work (Win XP) and could be to do with XP, the network or firewall.

I know that the websites I'm trying have valid certificates so i just want to ignore the problem and continue. I have tried the workarounds (manually creating a website exception, removing all warnings or deleting the cert8.db file) but no luck.

I'm considering downloading an earlier version of FF if I can (which always had 2 options)

Any ideas folks?

You can check the date and time and time zone in the clock on your computer: (double) click the clock icon on the Windows Taskbar.

If you can't inspect the certificate via "I Understand the Risks" then try this:

Open this chrome URI by pasting or typing this URI in the location/address bar to open the "Add Security Exception" window and check the certificate:

  • chrome://pippki/content/exceptionDialog.xul

In the location field type/paste the URL of the website

  • retrieve the certificate via the "Get certificate" button
  • click the "View..." button to inspect the certificate in the Certificate Viewer

Check who is the issuer of the certificate.

You can inspect more details like the certificate chain in Details tab of the Certificate Viewer.

I previously sucessfuly created the exceptions but they behave differently.

Both certificates have the same issuer, google.com works OK (after the exception was created) but the other does not.

Viewing them, both say 'could not verify this certificate because the issuer is unknown'.

One the one that fails, I'm getting - This site uses HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) to specify that Firefox only connect to it securely. As a result, it is not possible to add an exception for this certificate.

So even though I have created an exception, it is being ignored.

I need an option in FF to ignore certificate errors and continue
