I'm having a problem downloading Adobe Flash 18. I get a small window that says "Installation will begin shortly." About 5 minutes later I'll get an error message that says "Application Initialization Error." And when I click on the Finish button in the bottom right, it takes me right back to Adobe to download it again. Is anybody having a problem with this?

Dude, you're a few days too late. It's working now. It was Norton that was causing most of the headaches including not being able to get on the internet after I got Adobe Flash 18 working. Now I have a problem and it involves an add on I have installed. AdBlock Plus. This add on is causing Firefox to crash on websites Facebook and Publisher's Clearing House mainly because those two sites are littered with ads.

You could try the "full" installer. The small installer needs to connect back for additional files and some firewalls may block that. This page has the full installers:

https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html

For Firefox, you need the one for "plugin-based browsers".

That's the same page to where I am taken in order to download Adobe Flash 18, Same results.

Downloading and installation should be two separate steps. Adobe says to close the web browser before going to install Flash when you're using the full installer package.

I don't even get that message to close out my browser. I have a couple of screen shots saved on Microsoft word to show you exactly what I get, but I can't upload it below.

You can paste the screen shot into the Windows Paint program or another image editor to save it as a file you can attach to a reply. The PNG or JPEG format is fine. The forum does not accept non-image file types like Word documents.

I hope this works. I saved both screenshots to Windows Paint. Now you'll be able to see what is going on. I hope.

I found that phrase in a couple recent Adobe support forum threads, but without a quick/clear conclusion:

But if you use the "full" installer, it should avoid issues that affect the "online" installer. Don't use the black button on the right, scroll down to the first table and look for the row for "plugin-based browsers":

Which one would I download? EXE Installer or the MSI Installer?

Well, I've downloaded the EXE Installer of Adobe Flash now I have a problem. Every now and then I get an error message about the flash player saying that it's either stuck, busy, etc so I keep hitting the Stop Plugin button. Any thoughts to keep this from happening?

Hey? Have you guys bailed on me or something? I'm still having problems here.

Hi crazycappy01, holidays happen. What is the wording of the error messages you get now?

This is some standard guidance that addresses the most common issues with the Flash Player plugin. I'm sure you've seen some of it before, but just in case:

(1) If you have any recorders/downloaders that interact with Flash media make sure they are as up-to-date as possible, or disable them temporarily.

(2) Disable hardware acceleration in Flash

Right-click the media and choose Settings, then the first mini-tab and uncheck the box to use hardware acceleration. More information in this support article from Adobe: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues

(3) Disable protected mode (Windows Vista and higher)

The protected mode feature of the Flash player plugin has security benefits, but seems to have compatibility issues on some systems, including numerous unresponsive script errors. There is a hidden setting for this:

(A) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(B) In the search box above the list, type or paste flash and pause while the list is filtered

(C) Double-click the dom.ipc.plugins.flash.disable-protected-mode preference to switch its value from false to true.

This might not take effect until all Flash has been unloaded for a few minutes, or you close Firefox.

Any improvement?

Okay, it sounds like we can mark this thread "Solved."

Let's continue with your other question here to avoid confusion: Firefox crashing with websites Facebook and Publisher's Clearing House.
