I can't get "BLUR" aka "DoNotTrack" to work since the last update?Whats up
I have been using Blur aka DoNotTrack with Firefox for years. Since the last up date its acting up. Its not a "signed" add-on and I can't find a way to get around that. Is the fact that it is unsigned by Firefox why I'm having issues with it? It is a very good add-on I've been using for years. The company has never let me down. If you could let me know what I can do to have my browser like this add-on that would be great. Gregg

Hi Gregg, signatures do not affect functionality. Firefox is moving toward requiring signatures as a filter on malware-ish extensions. That will start being enforced in a future version, for now it's just a warning you'll see when installing or on the Add-ons page.
Also, if you installed Blur from the Mozilla Add-ons site, it should already be signed: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/donottrackplus/
Do you have that version, or one you got somewhere else?

Actually, the one from their site (https://dnt.abine.com/#help/faq/faq-installBlur) has a significantly higher version number and was updated more recently:
- 5.1.1857 updated 10/6/2015, vs.
- 4.9.1720 updated 7/2/2015
(Why does this happen??)
To check whether you have the recent update, go to the Add-ons page using either:
- Ctrl+Shift+a
- "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then find Blur on the right side and click the "More" link to see the details.
I am sure that you are right and thanks for steering in the right direction. Thank you sir. gregg
Its fixed--much thanks---love Firefox and Mozilla
I now have the same issue. Blur is apparently completely blocked in Firefox 42- HUGE annoyance. I tried 3 different versions of Blur, but all blocked. I get an error message that the browser cannot connect to that site, so Blur usage is curtailed. Problem goes away when I downgrade to FF 41. Ugh!
Hi Mr. News, when you do get this:

Is that at startup, or while you're browsing, etc.?
Does it mention the address of the site it cannot reach?
Since they might have a fix, would you mind sending an email support request to the company that publishes the extension: https://www.abine.com/support.html
It is while browsing, the Blur add-on usually issues an answerable pop-up window concerning site login-in etc. This message is now blocked by Firefox. The error message does not mention a URL, but does mention Blur, I think.
I have the latest version of Blur by Abine, v5.2.1878, which works perfectly, as long as I don't allow Firefox 42 to install. It was working fine in the 41.0.2 version. I'm glad Mozilla is trying to "protect" me, but user configurability needs to be added to allow use of "dangerous" add-ons.
I have reported this issue to Abine last night and today, via three different channels.

If you are getting an infobar sliding down between the toolbar area and the top of the page mentioning a blocked popup, try turning off Firefox's pop-up blocker as a test. You can do that on the Options/Preferences page. See: Settings for web content, pop-ups, fonts, and languages. Does that return Blur to normal operation?
Just heard from Abine, who urged a re-install of Blur. Instead, I re-upgraded to FF 42, and the problem went away. FF Pop-up Blocker remains activated.
Thank you for the help attempts. Wish I would have captured a screenshot of the error message though. It was unlike anything I've seen before...

When I opened FF (version 43) on 12/16/15), my BLUR add-on was disabled because it was not signed. When I went to FF add-ons web page, the version of Blur was 5.3.1983 . My version, which FF disabled, was 4.9.1759. I contacted Abine via their website, asking how to restore BLUR. Abine responded very promptly by email, with the following advice: Uninstall/re-install Blur. We believe that doing a quick uninstall/ re-install of Blur for Firefox will resolve the issue that you’re describing. Free users (or those who don’t have backup/sync turned on) and have passwords or auto-fill data stored in Blur, will need to first export their data, so that it can be imported after re-installing. Follow steps 1-3 to export and save your BLUR data. 1) Login to Blur 2) Go to Settings 3) Select "Export" and save the Blur Export file to your desktop, or wherever it will be easily accessible Steps 4 and 5 apply to all BLUR users: 4) Un-install Blur (https://dnt.abine.com/#help/faq/faq-uninstallBlur) Please note that on this web page, BLUR simply instructs users to remove or uninstall BLUR from their FF extensions list. 5) Re-install Blur using this link: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/donottrackplus/?src=ss Steps 6 and 7 are for users who exported and saved their BLUR data 6) Login to your account and go to Settings: https://dnt.abine.com/#/settings 7) Then import the exported file that was saved before.
I'm pleased to report that following Abine's advice restored the BLUR icon on my FF toolbar and that my BLUR data was already in BLUR, as it was before (I’m a premium user).
I only wish that FF and/or Abine could have accomplished this changeover without the user having to do it on their own. Or, at least that users were notified how to restore BLUR without having to ask.
