I've just upgraded from 24.6.0 to 38.3.0. After the upgrade I go to the Tools drop down and click on Account Settings, after that when I click on any of the choices in the side pane (under my name) I get a rectangular gray window with a yellow triangle and an exclamation point and next ti it it shows: Account Wizard - An account with this name already exists. Please enter a different account name. This only happen on my profile, using my wife's profile her account settings work normally.

My account settings worked normally when using 24.6.0. I have also tried several previous upgrades and the same thing happened with previous upgrades as well - in the past I have gone back to using 24.6.0

Can anyone please give me some idea of why this account settings issue might be happening.

The checking is not in V24. Later versions have it.. It is that simple.

So to make it easy, go back to V24 and use the account settings to remove the duplication and them upgrade again. It is usually that someone has changed the name of Local folders to an email address that is configured as well. But not always.

You have two accounts with duplicate names.

Use the config editor to search for settings mail.server. In the list your will see settings with mail.server[A number].name the number designates account 1,2,3 etc. so look through the list at the names and locate the duplicate. Modify it by double clicking (just add one character)

Matt, thanks for your reply - if this be the case and somehow I have two accounts with duplicate names, then why does this only occur when I upgrade?

I was able to access my account normally in 24.6.0.

new feature... I though it was in 17, but obviously my memory is faulty. Duplicate names and people changing mail stores to my documents were causing huge problems so the ability to do so was removed, unfortunately those that had already done these things were out in the cold.

Matt, I'm sorry but you've lost me - I am really not sure at all at your meaning of your reply.

The situation with my account only happened when I upgraded - If, I were to go back to 24.6.0 like I've done before I'd be able to get my account settings.

OK - I'll go back to V24 and take another look for a second account with my name. But my wife & I have had no problems with our profiles and accounts with V24.

I went back to V24 and found in the Special Account section I had both my first and last name. My wife has only her first name in this section.

I've removed my last name.

That is the only item that is different in both of our accounts in both of our profiles.

Just to clarify: in V24, I have one profile with my name and one account in my name, in my profile and my wife has one profile and one account in her name in her profile.

EUREKA!!!!!!! Problem sloved!!!!!

The removal of my last name did the trick - I'm not sure why that would have caused the problem.

Matt - thank you for bringing my attention to that section of my account. I compared my account to my wife's account and I saw that her last name was not there either.
