why are downloads not going to my downloads icon on desktop anymore?

I am on a macbook pro. Until yesterday all my downloads went to both the downloads folder in the finder and the downloads icon on the dock. They are no longer going to the icon on the dock. This is very inconvenient. How can I correct the problem???

Hello kassee, see if for some reason something change in Save files to firefox preference.

Type (or copy/paste) about:preferences in location bar > General > Downloads > Save files to > Choose…

I had checked that and there was no change. However, today it is working for no explicable reason. Thank you for your reply.
