I want to be able to view websites on my smart TV through Firefox. I want to use my PC, through my home network. Is it possible through Firefox without an external device like Chromecast or Roku?

I haven't been able to find any add-on or plugin that has this option other than those to view YouTube videos.

Thank you.

Somewhat beyond the scope of this fora.

Some current Smart TV's come with their own web browser, so just connecting to your "local area network" (LAN) would get internet access on your TV.

And a few Smart TV's run the Firefox Operating System, which comes with a slim version of Firefox as made for Smart Phones. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/os/devices/tv/ https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/getting-help-your-firefox-os-based-panasonic-tv

Also, many TV's can be connected to a PC via an HDMI cable and work as a large monitor.

For further information you should peruse the Tech / Special Interest fora over at DSL Reports. In the early 00's I spent a bit of time over there to solve hardware / connection issues I had with PC's. But not recently or for TV to PC interfaces; either hardware or software. http://www.dslreports.com/forums/55

I 'm sure there are probably other forums that would help answer your questions, but I am not aware of them. I haven't done much with new hardware in the last 10 or 11 years.

I'm fully aware of the connection possibilities you mentioned. My TV is 3yrs old and it's browser is linux based and is basically useless. Simply using my TV as a monitor via HDMI is not an option due to the PC being in another room. I was hoping FF supported device casting through DNLA (mirror casting). I'm able to do this via WMP with saved media.

Thanks for the attempt anyway.

It has been over two weeks and still no real help. Really disappointed with the support here. I thought Mozilla was better than this.

You can try to set browser.casting.enabled to true on the about:config page.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

Thank you for the response Cor-el.

However, this still hasn't changed anything in the way of functionality. Yes, I was able to enable casting via config, but there is still no option (that I can find) in FF that does it. Either the code is there for a possible function option later on, or it's dead code left behind, but Mozilla hasn't provided a way for someone to use it.

If an add-on uses this, I'd love to find it. Mozilla is getting further behind in this aspect of browsers since MS, Chrome, Safari, & others already offer it and have for a while now.

I'm currently going through this, but I'm no coder so I'm having difficulty in understanding if I can indeed turn it on. I understand the security issues.

I've been able to get the casting option to list on the right-click menu of most video's, but it's grayed out. I don't want to abandon FF, but this might be the breaking point. That and all the crashes with Unity and idle times.
