What is "Run Junk Mail Controls" and how do I use it?
I'm a fairly new user of Thunderbird and have emails with the "flame" junk icon. When I click on "Run Junk Mail Controls" nothing moves. From the title of this feature it would seem those emails with the flame icon would then be moved to the Junk folder, but nothing happens. What is the Run Junk Mail Controls feature, and how do I use it.

P.S. I have been using the "Mark Email" as junl feature for a coupe of months now
junk feature for a couple months
In the account settings, have you told it what to do when you mark a message as Junk? It won't necessarily move messages until you tell it that's what you want it to do. Look under Junk Controls in Account Settings for this account.
Ordinarily you don't need to explicitly run the Junk Controls; this should happen automatically when new messages arrive in the Inbox. You might want to run them "manually" (so to speak) after doing some tidying up, where you might have moved some messages into the Inbox. I don't recall if the feature invites you to run the Junk Controls on other folders, but this would have obvious uses. I don't have Thunderbird here in front of me to check right now.
I think there is a right-click action to dispose of messages in the current folder that are marked as Junk - that would be one way of making use of the orange flame.
Oh, gawd......twice now this FireFox browser has crashed, and I've started this reply THREE times!!!
OK.....so, never mind, I think I might have figured out the problem. Won't know for sure until tomorrow.
Thank you, Zenos, for your time and expertise, and with some luck this problem will be solved, and I can now go and figure out the 3 other problems I have with TB and FireFox.
I don't blame TB, I blame Microsoft. They have just made my online and computer life miserable for over a year now, with no end in sight. They no longer support Windows Live Mail, they've reworked IE11 to the point where it's just useless, and they're offering up this horrible, horrible, Win10 OS. Win10 crashed my desktop because of a glitch in the Restore function, and they admitted as much in the Windows Support forum. Want the URL to the page where they admit that?? I'll send it to you.....
So, all of us desktop users (yes, I still use my desktop, or will when it's data is recovered, the HD is wiped and Win7 is installed) and laptop users are just thrown to the wayside while Microsoft plays catch-up with small device operating systems.
I have absolutely NO intention of doing all my work on a phone. For gawd's sake, who can write a business letter on a screen that SMALL!!
Which reminds me......part of this problem I was having with TB and the junk controls was because there was a teeeeeensy tiny icon I didn't see. The TB coders have got to recognize that there are older folx using their products, and we need things to be just a bit larger. I even had my glasses ON and didn't see that little down arrow........ugh.......gettin' older just isn't for sissies.
Anyway, Zenos, again, thank you for your time, and I'm going to stay positive and think my problem is solved. But don't hold you breath, and I'm not going to mark this as solved until tomorrow.....
Pop mail accounts will use 'Junk' folder. Imap mail accounts will use the server junk folder which may be called 'Spam'. You should make sure you have subscribed to see the 'Spam' imap mail account folder.

Options settings: Menu icon > Options > Options > Security > 'Junk' tab see image below
Thank you for the information, I did all the steps you out lined. I have an IMAP system, so, all the junk mail will now be moved to the TB junk folders. However, as I mentioned, I'll give it a day or so before I consider this problem solved, if that's ok.
Toad-Hall, I appreciate your help. Being online this past year has just been a struggle, and the dust hasn't settled, yet. But, the more I understand TB and FF the better it will be, I think. I hope....
