How do I restore my bookmarks which were all lost after I refreshed Mozilla Firefox?
All of my bookmarks disappeared after I refreshed Firefox. I tried to follow the directions that were given to some others with the same problem, but I am lost. In one response, it was recommended to delete JSON files, but I was afraid to delete the two JSONLZ4 files that I found (somewhere). I thought that it might cause my bookmarks to completely disappear. Can anyone guide me through the process to restore bookmarks simply? I would really appreciate your help. Thank you.

Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox?

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-run-firefox-when-profile-missing-inaccessible
When you use the refresh feature in Firefox then a new profile is created and some personal data (bookmarks and history, form data, tabs) is automatically imported. The current profile folder will be moved to an "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop. Installed extensions and other customizations (toolbars, prefs) that you have made are lost and need to be redone.
It is possible to recover data from the "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
You can copy files like these with Firefox closed to the current profile folder to recover specific data.
- bookmarks and history: places.sqlite
- bookmark backups: compressed .jsonlz4 backups in the bookmarkbackups folder
- cookies.sqlite for the cookies
- formhistory.sqlite for saved form data
- logins.json and key3.db (decryption key) for Passwords saved in the Password Manager
- cert8.db and possibly cert_override.txt for (intermediate) certificates stored in the Certificate Manager
- persdict.dat for words you added to the spelling checker dictionary
- permissions.sqlite for Permissions and possibly content-prefs.sqlite for other Site Preferences
- sessionstore.js for open tabs and pinned tabs
You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Thank you, FredMcD and cor-el. Before I entered my question into the forum, I had already tried some of the links that you gave. I honestly cannot find my bookmarks. I found the profile information. I tried to restore the bookmarks, but nothing works. I do have the Old Firefox Data folder on my desktop, but I don't understand what to do with it. I do not have much computer knowledge, so I think it is beyond what I can do to try to restore my bookmarks. I am disappointed. I even restored my computer to a previous version (July 31), which was before I "refreshed" Firefox, but the bookmarks/favorites were still not there.
You can copy the compressed .jsonlz4 files in the profile in the "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop to the current profile folder to make it easier to restore the bookmarks in case this folder is currently empty.
Does the bookmarkbackups folder in the current profile folder empty or are there compressed .jsonlz4 present in this folder?

Did you check the bookmarkbackups folder in the "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop?
The name of a JSON bookmarks backup file includes a total item count (folders and separators included) and an hash value to prevent saving the same backup more than once.
- bookmarks-YYYY-MM-DD_<item count>_<hash>.jsonlz4.
I have exactly the same problem. Please can someone suggest an answer. I have just refreshed firefox and now all my bookmarks have dissappeared. I followed the setps: Clicking on the bookmarks, bookmarks, show all bookmarks, import and backup, restore, and selected the lastest back up. I get the following message :"Unable to process the backup file." I also tried older backups and also the backups saved on the desk top. Nothing appears to work. I would really appreciate any help and support in this regard Thanks

If "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page can't repair the places.sqlite database then remove all places.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed to make Firefox rebuild the places.sqlite database from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.
- keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created
