Windows 10 64 Firefox keeps turning my proxy server on
Using Windows 10 64bit, my computer keeps turning the proxy server on. Microsoft tells me it is the browser that is doing this. Is there a way to keep Firefox from turning on my proxy server and is there any reason that Firefox is doing so?

Yes, I think you should disable Gmail Notifier to see whether that makes any difference. I don't think ABP makes background communications.

Could you take a look at and maybe adjust your connection setting:
- Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options
- Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences
- Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences
In the left column, click Advanced. Then on the right side, with the "Network" mini-tab active, click the "Settings" button. The default of "Use system proxy settings" piggybacks on your Windows/IE "LAN" setting. "Auto-detect" can lead to a flaky connection. You may want to try "No proxy".
Does that make any difference?
In Tools--Options--Advanced--Network--Settings Firefox is set to NOT use proxy settings. Something overrides that option. I know not what.

Have you tested with extensions disabled? You can view, disable, and often remove unwanted or unknown extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
- Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
- "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
- type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return
In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. Then you can test disabling extensions on the right side.
Sometimes a link will appear above an extension you choose to Disable to restart Firefox before the change takes effect. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

I have three Firefox plug-ins OpenH264 Video Codec by Cisco Systems Widevine Content Decryption Module Shockwave Flash
Do you have any thought on the likely culprit?
For now I have disabled all of them and will add them back one at a time to see if I can find the one causing the fault.
Flash and Widevine are only used when content in a page requires them, and I don't think think most people need OpenH264 at all.
But I was thinking of your extensions, not your plugins.
Firefox shows them under PLUG-INS. Were you thinking that I should disable my extensions, too. My extensions are Ad-Block Plus and Gmail Notifier.
