Please can someone solve this riddle...

Previously, when typing something in the address bar, autocomplete gave me suggestions and worked normally as you would expect.

However, it's recently stopped working, so now I get no suggestions at all (from bookmarks, history, search, etc...)

I've ticked all the correct boxes in Options and I've also had a look in about:config and ensured everything that should be, is set to TRUE.

I've refreshed Firefox and even updated to a new beta version, only to get the same outcome. No autocomplete in the address bar.

Does anyone have any ideas or recommendations as to how I can get this working again?

Thanks in advance!

If "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page or Places Maintenance can't repair the places.sqlite database then remove all places.sqlite file(s) in the Firefox profile folder to make Firefox rebuild the places.sqlite database from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Gonna give this a try, so far I'm stuck on 'checking integrity' for the last few hours.

Will update when I get somewhere though.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Brilliant! That did the trick!

Removed the places.sqlite files and re-opened Firefox. Boom! Back in business!

Thanks a lot for the help and support!
