Can't send email. Receive fine.
Seemingly suddenly I cannot send email using Thunderbird. There have been no recent configurational changes. There are several computers in the home. I can log onto these and send email. The issue appears to be localized to my desktop. I can send/receive email from my desktop using Gmail directly, but when using Thunderbird sending (SMTP server) times out.
Mail provider: Gmail ISP: Google Fiber Firewall version: Windows defender AV software/version: AVG (free) 19.1.3075 (31Jan2019) Op sys: Windows 10 TBird ver: 10.5.0
Description: Google Mail Server Name: smtp.gmail.com port: 465 Authorization Method: Normal Password Connection Security: SSL/TLS

Solved. Changed smtp (Connection Security) parameter from 'SSL/TLS' to 'StartTLS', and all appears to be well. For all the pain and suffering searching for resolution, this was infuriatingly simple. The VPN support staff was super in helping troubleshoot.

Follow-up... I have cascading routers configured. Primary (ISP provided) router and secondary (VPN) router. Thunderbird is able to send email when logged into the primary router. However, unable to send email when logged into the secondary router. Could my VPN be disrupting communication to SMTP?
VPNs are known to cause sending errors, unless the VPN provider has given explicit instructions for configuring email clients. You may have to ask the VPN provider to whitelist the gmail smtp server.
