I got a notice that some of my addons were no longer working, so I checked the settings and they were all listed under legacy disabled.

I have not updated or changed anything.

SO I checked google/reddit, and it seems a lot of users are having this exact same issue all starting today. Here are some links: https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/bkcjoa/all_of_my_addons_got_disabled_and_they_are_all/ https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/bk82t5/what_happened_overnight_running_6603_64_bit/

Please figure out what happened and fix it asap!

There is a problem with an expired intermediate certificate that is used to sign extensions. This is being worked on by the Add-ons team.

See:

At about 6:10 PST we received a report that a certificate issue for Firefox is causing add-ons to stop working and add-on installs to fail.
Our team is actively working on a fix. We will update as soon as we have more information.
  • Bug 1548973 - (armagadd-on-2.0) All extensions disabled due to expiration of intermediate signing cert

Mozilla has rolled-out a fix for this. The fix will be automatically applied in the background within the next few hours, you don’t need to take active steps.

In order to be able to provide this fix on short notice, they are using the Studies system. You can check if you have studies enabled

  1. Go to [=] > Options > Privacy & Security.
  2. Make sure Allow Firefox to install and run studies is check marked.

I you had it disabled, you can disable studies again after your add-ons have been re-enabled.

They are working on a general fix that doesn't need to rely on this and will keep you updated.

I followed the directions, and restarted firefox, then windows, then left firefox open for 3 hours, restarted firefox, then windows again. No change.

My ff is 66.0.3 (64-bit) full, stable not beta or nightly, does that matter?

Also, just noticed... if I check "Allow Firefox to install and run studies" Then restart firefox When I go to preferences again, the box is unchecked

In fact, when I check that box in options, then close options tab, then open options again, the box has unchecked itself :/

@Chadan_Baba, I have already been following those directions.

My problem is: When I click the checkbox to "Allow Firefox to install and run studies"

When I close the options tab, then click on options again, that box is no longer checked.

Hi moonthink, could you check that setting through the back door:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste shield and pause while the list is filtered

(3) If the app.shield.optoutstudies.enabled preference is bolded and "modified" or "user set" to false, double-click it to restore the default value of true

If this preference indicates that it is Locked, then an external configuration file is overriding your ability to change this setting. That might be something an IT department installed if this is a work PC.

It was bold and set to false. I changed it to true.

I restarted firefox, I opened options, I checked the box to "Allow Firefox to install and run studies"

I closed the options tab, then re-opened it and the box is unchecked. Tried multiple times restarting both ff and windows (just in case), no luck.

I looked at about:config shield, and that app.shield.optoutstudies.enabled is still set to true

Why wont allow studies stay enabled??

Or maybe the question is, "Why doesn't the box on the Options page work the way it should?" I don't know. Disconnects happen sometimes for unknown reasons -- difficult to investigate because they often start working again when testing in Firefox's Safe Mode or just exiting Firefox and starting it up again.

I downloaded the hotfix directly from here: https://storage.googleapis.com/moz-fx-normandy-prod-addons/extensions/hotfix-update-xpi-intermediate%40mozilla.com-1.0.2-signed.xpi

Was mildly nervous about it, but it seems to have solved the first issue -- my add-ons work now

Still can't seem to make the allow studies box to stay checked, but kind of a moot point now anyway.
