Add mail account button won't respond (Linux)

Clicking on "Add mail account" does nothing. Thunderbird is installed in Linux. I tried doing the same in Thunderbird's safe mode but still it does nothing. I suppose I could try reinstalling, but I would really like to know what the problem is. Any ideas as to why the button won't respond? All other buttons in account settings work.

Some Linux versions or themes don't render the TB buttons or menus properly, for reasons I can't explain. Does File/New/Existing Mail Account... work?
